Difference Between MSN Degrees

Students can select one of four different specializations when pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing at Grantham University. Each specialization focuses on a different sector of nursing. Core course topics include advanced practices within nursing, the legal and ethical issues that impact the industry, and physical assessment methods. Each degree requires 36 credit hours and a certain amount of clinical experience.

Case Management students will develop the skills needed to provide short- and long-term care to patients dealing with various illnesses or recovering from surgery. Healthcare needs will be explored in diverse populations and other parts of the world.

Education students will learn how to build a comprehensive, professionally relevant curriculum that contributes to a successful nursing career. Topics covered include the accreditation process and how to deliver education in both in-person and remote formats.

Informatics is the study of information technology within healthcare to improve patient outcomes. Students will learn advanced nursing concepts, such as the impact of healthcare practices and procedures in different environments, how patient care has become more efficient over time, and more. Students will also study client privacy and security regulations, and explore new tools used to keep vulnerability and risk low.

Management and Organizational Leadership emphasizes the executive level of healthcare. This includes the business aspect of healthcare facilities and strategies for efficient operations. Students will learn leadership skills that allow them to deal with team conflicts, increase collaboration among healthcare staff, and improve morale and efficiency.

All four specializations conclude with a research seminar and practicum that looks into emerging nursing trends. Students will showcase what they have learned (including critical thinking and teamwork skills) throughout their studies with evidence-based treatment planning and patient care. 90 hours of direct and indirect practicum experience is required to complete the practicum portion of the program, and 244 total clock hours of practice is required over the span of seven total courses.
