Military Tuition Assistance (TA)

Grantham is approved by all U.S. military branches for TA, meaning all active duty service members are able to use their TA to attend. Accessing and applying your military TA is a process that can take up to four weeks, so it’s best to get started as soon as possible.

Extend Your TA

Your TA benefit will cover some or most of your education costs, but it may not cover all of them. So what happens when your TA runs out? You have options to keep yourself enrolled in classes, including military scholarships. Grantham’s Commander Everett Alvarez, Jr. Resilience Scholarship is available to all eligible military students using TA. At up to $1,000 annually per student, this scholarship helps bridge the gap until your benefits are replenished. You’ll be able to continue with your studies without having to tap into GI Bill® benefits or use other forms of military financial assistance.
GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government Web site at https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.

Get (Transfer) Credit Where Credit is Due

Grantham is one of the few online colleges for military and veterans that will evaluate the experience you already have for comparable course credit at no cost. By maximizing military training, life experience and prior college coursework, you can shorten your path to graduation by up to 75% and avoid taking unnecessary courses. To get the credit evaluation process started, order your transcripts using the appropriate military branch link below.

Education and Military Service

When balancing active duty service with higher education, service member students have a lot to consider. Luckily, there are plenty of options and guidance to help you succeed in both worlds.
Time Commitment

Planning is the key to success for any college student, but especially for those actively serving in the military. As a rule of thumb, carve out two hours of study time per credit hour each week. It can be helpful to create a daily log detailing how you spend each hour of each day. Use it to see where your time is spent efficiently and where your time could be better managed.

On-Base Vs. Online

Many active duty service members have the opportunity to take classes on base. While this may be convenient, course topics may be limited and attending required class times could be difficult. Online universities like Grantham, however, are designed for students with a non-traditional or unpredictable schedule. With no set class times and virtual classrooms that move with you, students can complete coursework whenever and wherever it works best for them.

Financial Assistance

Active duty military members have access to Military Tuition Assistance, a benefit paid to eligible members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard. In some cases, this benefit will be enough to pay up to 100% of your tuition expenses. If you need additional funding, you can apply for one of Grantham’s military scholarships or Federal Student Aid, if eligible. For more information about tuition assistance, see the Military Tuition Assistance (TA) and Extend Your TA sections on this page.

Student Support

Grantham provides a variety of student support resources that can be especially useful to active duty students. Dedicated student advisors are available by phone, text or email whenever you need them, and flexible deployment policies allow you to put your program on hold, should you need to. No-cost online tutoring and a host of web-based library resources are also available for academic support.

Grantham is Recognized for Military Friendliness

University of Arkansas Grantham is accredited by DEAC, NCSARA, ABET and has received numerous awards.
